So there is an interface standard for DVB - but different broadcasters can chose different encryption schemes, requiring different CAMs for decryption. Attempting to repair just the problem rivlets was impossible because as soon as you found a bad one and soldered it, another in its vicinity would decide to fail. The only approach that worked was to reheat every one that could be located using a soldering gun.
With others, the only way to open them non-destructively is from the inside. As it turned out, the only damage was to the circuit board and after 2 or 3 hours of soldering - and then finding additional traces to solder - the set was fixed, and has continued to operate reliably for many years. With the Omni Polk I never experienced this issue. It would stay connected all night while I slept, using the phone or switching to other settings. As the title says, I have had this for less than two years and it broke. Basically what happens is the unit freezes constantly so you have to unplug it to get it to restart again. I prefer the Sharp 240W 5-disc changer, but that model is currently out of stock. So I purchased the LG model and … I really like it.
For movies in Atmos in particular the upfiring and side firing drivers create a great wide soundstage. It sounds amazing and puts out bass deep enough that pictures and a painting jumped off the wall where they were hanging. Although both the tv and sound bar remotes use Bluetooth —and don’t need line of sight — the cable box remote I also use is, unfortunately, INFRARED. It will not simultaneously turn on the cable box and the tv (and, subsequently, the soundbar, too!) — when I’m sitting on the couch — unless I lift the remote over my head and click! I could probably solve the problem by placing a 1”-2” riser under the television’s pedestal stand, to raise it up just enough to expose the infrared sensor and allow everything to work properly. Check that your sound cables are securely plugged in and that all devices are powered on.
I put it in Cinema, and besides I wanted the subwoofer to sound louder so I set the bass to +6 and the treble to +15. LG also needs to take the time to make the app more intuitive. Overall sound quality is very good but seems to lack “oomph. ” Perhaps I need to spend more time tinkering around with the settings but I am surprised my previous SJ8 4. The other more pressing issue is that the sub disconnects and reconnects constantly at random intervals. Sometimes it can go a few hours other times its every 5 minutes.
It’s a massive beast, and occupies over 4-feet of shelving, but it’s a powerful system all the same. Additionally, some of the functions in the LG app actually do the opposite of what they describe, such as ‘Auto Volume on/off’, which actually causes more volume spikes when enabled than when disabled. Problems Okay so I have mixed experiences using the soundbar depending on what source device I use. Initially with my set up configuration I get really bad lip syncing audio delay when using SkyQ as the source device which seems even worse if I watch streaming services via the Sky Q box. A fairly substantial soundbar that is certainly powerful enough for a small room, and seems to be sound-filling enough even for my 22’ x 40‘ living room.
